My Bio

Stephen Blake Mettee

I’m the founder of Quill Driver Books and the author of The Fast-Track Course on How to Write a Nonfiction Book Proposal. I’m also the editor of The Portable Writer’s Conference. (Editor in this case means I came up with the idea for the book and collected the 45-plus chapters.) In addition to this, I have edited—and often rewrote—more than 150 books. My degree is in journalism. Currently I have the honor of serving on the board of the Independent Book Publishers Association (formerly known as Publishers Marketing Association or PMA), the nation’s largest such organization.

Quill Driver Books publishes nonfiction books on writing and publishing, business, health, and other genres. We have a series of self-help and how-to books for people over 50 called The Best Half of Life series.

During my 14 years at the helm of QDB I shepherded two books into Book-of-the-Month Club selections and one onto the New York Times best-seller list. This is quite a feat for an independent house, I immodestly point out. QDB’s authors include the famous, such as Dr. Ruth Westheimer, social media expert Paul Gillin, and America’s most popular medical columnist Peter H. Gott, M.D., as well as first-time authors.

QDB is recognized by industry periodical Book Marketing Update as one of the “Top 101 Independent Book Publishers” in the United States and by Writer’s Digest as one the 100 most new-writer friendly book publishers in the U.S.

I’m always in the market for exceptional nonfiction books. You can e-mail me here: Mettee@TheWriteThought.com.
